My toons have died of starvation several times in the game now and it's getting frustrating. If food must be a requirement of the game, please make it drop more often and make it so that it is always available from a store.
I'd like to play an RP game with the comfort of knowing that my character isn't so stupid as to start an epic adventure without planning on eating or that she can't figure out how to harvest meat from the creatures she just killed.

You're probably taking your time too much. I try and craft my route on each level so that I go through each room only once. Of course, this rarely works in practice, but it's good to keep in mind in order to minimize food consumption.
Also, try not to nap very often (hard to do in some cases), since it takes food. To minimize the need for napping, you need to minimize damage taken, so try and not get hit by more than 1 or 2 enemies at a time, use rocks, throwing knives, nets, darts, arrows, etc to damage the enemies or keep them away from you long enough that once the get to you you can kill them in one hit.
Prioritize what enemies you're going to kill – in the Bandit Hole, I normally try and kill the Assassins with the bows with throwing knives or rocks (usually just one knife does it). Also on level 2, the poison rats can also be tricky. They normally take 2 or so hits, so if you can Soften them or hit them with rocks on their way in, that helps.
Always buy whatever food you can find in shops. After the Golden Genie, you can go back to the shop and buy again if you didn't have enough gold when you got there originally. Also, if you level up your healing spell, you can outheal the damage you take from hunger, depending on when you start running out of food.
I hope this is a little helpful. Just keep trying and it'll start to work out more. I've encountered very few heroes who literally run out of food.

I love that you call your character a toon. Love it. I'm gonna start calling him that.

You can play the easy mode. That's an option.
Understand your frustrations, i used to die often from hunger.
I started reading more on the forum and learn to play better.
Now that i'm used to it, death from hunger happens occasionally.
Playing faster through the levels really help.
You can also get Wizard or Crusader and pump on healing skills to ease you into this Roguelike.
However, there are discussions about instant deaths from hunger for future game enhancements. Not sure you will enjoy the game when that happens.

I understand, I am dying from hunger quite often as well. It is really a bit strange that our hero start the whole journey to Hell with just a small portion of meal :)
Anyway, I'd love to have a bit more food as well. I'd like to enjoy the game, not run through all rooms like Usain Bolt :o)

If your hero started with large amounts of food he wouldn't be able to eat it all before it gets rotten. I think it is realistic that you have only one meal and rest you have procure-on-site (anyone played MGS3 ?)

Well, I would rather eat a rotten food (or somehow "harvest" food from dead creatures) than die of starvation :)

I like how it's set up currently.

You know, for a LONG time I've felt that food was actually too abundant in the game… so unless you guys can all unanimously sort of agree that it's a bit on the low side I really don't think we will be increasing it.
Just move faster through levels – Potions also give you a little food – and buy food items at the shop. Between that and the guaranteed food at the Genie I don't see how you're having such a problem. Good luck!

I could see how you would think that food is abundant.
I think it makes a difference how you want the food to affect the play of the game. I'm never really in any danger of running out of food, but I also don't really take my time on levels. If food was more plentiful, I wouldn't be affected, and if food was only slightly rarer, I also would not be too affected (normally; there are definitely some "low food" games). I think it's at a pretty good spot right now where it doesn't have too big of an affect on gameplay, but it definitely keeps you moving along.
