I had an Ambassador summoned when I entered the second boss's room.  During his opening cutscene, the ambassador walked through the door and started shooting the enemies as they walked in.  As far as I can tell, though, the cutscene didn't end until the acolytes got into the usual starting formation, which took several additional acolytes to replace those killed by the ambassador.
