is anyone actually able to play 100 Rogues v2.9 on a 3G?

I've found the game crashing regularly since I first installed it (mid april, v2.6 perhaps?), and my device logs are full of "Received memory warning. Level=2" at the appropriate times. sometimes when loading levels or boss defeat animations, more regularly when the OS tries to pop up an alert (SMS arriving, alarm going off, whatever).

since I've upgraded to v2.9 I haven't been able to play the game at all – it crashes back to springboard either while loading the level (continue saved or new), or from the launch splash screen. I'm 10 from 10 crashes so far. checking the last few crash logs, which have all been during the load splash, the memory warnings all seem to be causing my background processes (just mail and ipod, since as a 3G user I'm still on iOS 4.2.1) to quit, and then 100 Rogues is being killed by the OS with

so I've updated to 2.9.2 and the app launches, but consistently crashes (5 times from 5 so far) when loading a level.

this really is pretty crap. at least I used to be able to play, crashy as it was, but it looks like I'm now just plain SOL.

thanks for the fun game, back when it (sorta) worked. no thanks for whatever happened to make it just not work any more, and the lack of response here.

I've been playing it just fine on a 3rd Gen iTouch. I don't know if that's the same as what you are using at all, or similiar. The game hasn't crashed on me in a really long time.

the 3rd gen iTouch has twice the RAM of an iPhone 3G – it's the iTouch equivalent of a 3GS phone.

In preparation for releasing our next update, I've taken some time to test on a 3G device. For the last couple of days I've been playing it and running some smoke tests that do things like load every conceivable item, load all monsters in each level successively. Stuff that basically stress tests the device. The game works fine, if a little slow to load and choppy to move (particularly in Hell, with its animating lava), the first time through.

Running the game start to finish 3 or 4 times in a row does start to create memory problems. Restarting the game or even the device should be the safest way to play.

In any case, I've packed the frames of some of our spritesheets down into a smaller resolution (oh, hey, I found I reason to say I "tightened up the graphics on level 3")

That should help some with crashes on devices that are already running low on memory.
