So I've seen that the Faerie Wizard is surprisingly proficient with a decent melee weapon and shield. If you come across a good dagger early on in the game, I suggest you stick with this. Dump the wand and hoard up on other daggers, throwing knives etc and use them liberally. The general strategy being to weaken a mob from afar and as they approach, finish them off with your melee attack. Gaining back precious Energy.

You should max out Amafyst, and Aura Siphon is a must. I got magic crystals which is handy in a tight spot, but teleport could be a good choice too, however teleport uses precious Energy that should be reserved for Amafyst.

A lot of this is based on luck and what chests you come across, but I've gotten well past the Genie and I'm taking it nice and slow so as not to die prematurely with this build.

Let me know if any of you go this route as well.

How much damage are you doing with your amafyst with it max out?

So far my most enjoyable build has been the fairy tank.  I don't just rely on daggers though but rather alternate between sword/shield and wand for high armor critters.  It is pretty fun and versatile – teleport is great, as are the aura siphon and healing spells.

Funny. I tend to think along the lines that Amafyst uses up precious energy that should be saved for teleport. It's a wonderful spell, don't get me wrong, but with teleport you always have the option of not dying. I consider this a plus.

I don't play with wizard much, since it's too easy to just fall into the teleport groove and wand/amafyst everyone to dust. I may have to try a tele-stabby wizard again to make it more interesting.

Seriously. If you play a wizard with teleport and get killed (not starved) it's your own fault for not knowing when to pull out. It's next to impossible to die with a porting wizard if you keep close watch on your energy and don't take chances with ranged enemies.

My most recent Satan kill was with a wizard that used only teleport and amafyst (did around 40 damage per shot when I was at Satan). Ultimately I picked aura siphon and crystal shards too since I had skill points lying around but didn't really use them. I finished the game with the wand and robe I started with and that's what makes the wizard so powerful. Gear is irrelevant.

Sure, the wand picked up a few enchants along the way, but while they help, they're not necessary.

Also, a strange thing happened with the Dark Pope. I hopped around the room with teleport and wanded all the acolytes down. Then, when the shield dissipated, it seemed like all the enemies in the room, including their generation, just kinda froze. It was 2 or 3 amafysts later that the Pope kicked the bucket so I can't be sure, but is anything like that an intended feature?

Hi guys,

I've had awesome fairy builds using tele-stab and magic crystals.

However, I seem to rely on Purify a lot.

Been trying to play without any healing spell without success.

Did you guys pick Purify?

I've never been able to beat Satan without Purify.

Thanks.

I've beaten Satan without purify. You'll need high damage output and likely a nice stash of healing potions, but it's doable. Though I wouldn't think with a tele-stab build. If you're meleeing with the wizard you will most likely need purify to survive. Unless you're lucky enough to get leather armor enchanted to +7 or higher and a decent pool of health.

Also, so far I tend to need to use a safe spot* when facing Satan, since with a few unlucky unholy fires you'll burn through your potions in a hurry.

Still, crystals hurt big S big time, and Nandrew's Goat-whacker does 99 damage when thrown (and is consumed in the process) so it's a good idea to save a few to help off Satan.

*Disclaimer: There is a spot where one can attack Satan with a ranged weapon and in which I have so far not been hit with the unholy fires. It may not be 100% safe, but I'm not much for scorefarming as it's not really fun so I've yet to find out. Developers may confirm or deny at their leisure if this is indeed the case and if it is intentional. Just in case it's something for players to discover and utilize, I'm not disclosing the spot just yet.

As a Mage I never had any problems with Satan. Two or three crystal balls can keep him occupied and I can easily take care of vampire bats. But usually only two or three spawn before Satan is finished so it is not a big deal. And the unholy fires? Well, usually I can easily survive two or three blasts without need for healing – don't forget that auto-healing is much much faster – so one healing spell or one potion is usually enough to keep you in good shape :)
