Does anybody know how to beat this challenge mode level? I honestly can't, for the life of me, kill these darn fire rats.

Remember that you can throw energy potions as a makeshift hand grenade.  It's just a matter of getting the rats to cooperate and move the proper way.

Toy around with that, and if you still want some help I'll give it to you :)

The notch at the bottom of the map is another clue.

This challenge is still killing me. Half the time I use the potion as grenade, it kills me in the process. And I'm never able to exploit the smash-into-wall capacity of Whack. Gahhh

Just beat it. Required a huge amount of luck re: where the rats would go (since that seems to be somewhat random). Also required a lucky throw of something other than the potion.

I didn't even notice that you were given an energy potion in that challenge. Thanks for the help, I finally beat the stupid thing.

For those not wanting to waste as much time on this as I did, go through this sequence:

  • Head up
  • Whack of Glory the rat
  • Hope that the top two rats are now adjacent.  If not, you lose.
  • Throw your energy potion at the undamaged top rat, both should die.
  • Beat the bottom rat to death.  Hope that he doesn't kill you in two hits.

1.9 – This strategy still works. Except that the two rats doesnt die.

  • Turn 9: Go up one step
  • Turn 8: Whack of Glory the rat
  • Turn 7: Hope that the top two rats are now adjacent.
    * If not, you lose.
    * If so, throw your energy potion at the undamaged top rat, the previously whacked one dies
  • Turn 6: Whack of Glory the rat below you (the half dead rat will be to your north-west)
  • Turn 5: Beat the half dead rat that is now directly to either your west or north with the sword
  • Turn 4: Head one south
  • Turn 3: Skip if necessary or beat the remaining rat with the sword
  • Turn 2: Beat the remaining rat with the sword
  • Turn 1: Beat the remaining rat with the sword
  • Complete Cool

You may be depending on some luck with the damage the bottom rat does to you and the damage you deal to it, also Turn 3: Skip may be unecessary depending on how far you wacked the rat or if Turn 5 took longer than expected. I beat the bottom rat with the sword two times and that was enough, but another I had to beat it three times with the sword.

Thanks!  I had tried something like this before, but 3 times I failed it due to not being able to kill the bottom rat fast enough, and thus I thought this solution didn't work.  Only after noticing that you CAN kill that rat if you get lucky do I realize that I was on the right track.

As a note though, I think these challenges shouldn't be "luck based".  If you follow the right steps, you should ALWAYS be able to beat the challenge.  For a challenge to REQUIRE you to be lucky and deal enough damage, or be lucky and not take too much damage is not a smart idea.

I'd like to add that when doing this challenge throwing the potion no longer does anything. No explosion, nada.

2.4 is up, so potions / smoke bombs should be working again. Happy exploding evil rats!

Turn 9: Go up one step

Turn 8: Whack of Glory the rat

Turn 7: Go right

Turn 6: Go right

Turn 5: Go up

Turn 4: Throw the potion to the farthest rat and hope the bomb will not reach you ==

Turn 3 + 2 : One rat die the other wall walk to you then kill it with just in two strike
