RogueBot Tips?

So ever since the update I've pretty much been playing RogueBot nonstop, trying to find a nice build for him.  So far, I've managed to get to the Dungeon starting with grenade then moving into and filling up the robo-bomb tree.  RogueBot is very fun to play, but hard to get far with.

I can usually maneuver enemies into a well placed grenade, but something ALWAYS goes wrong on a Dungeon map — my grenade gets unexpectedly intercepted by someone closer which catches me in the blast, or I figure "15HP is enough to move over there to a more managable place" then get hit from all sides by 7's from enemies that were normally hitting 3's. (On my best RogueBot, I got quite far and was doing well and kept wondering why I was taking constant 1's until I died, where I was promptly reminded of hunger -_-)

So, tips?

I'm extremely interested to see what people come up with for the Rogue-Bot.

It's worth it to mention that, in terms of development, the Monster Classes came about in a VERY different way than the three PCs.  Firstly, I didn't design the Monster Classes – they were concieved by Wes.  Also, they were concieved in a much shorter time frame – the PCs all took months – I can almost say years – to design.  The Scoundrel's skill set as you see it now is at least the 30th draft.  So, I expect these classes to be a lot more exciting in a silly way, but probably less balanced.  We would like to address any *serious* balance concerns, however, so let us know if any abilities are GOD-TIER and let us know if any are SUCK-TIER… so to speak.

One thing that disappoints me is the usefulness of the rocket.  I realize it has a massive AoE and can't be intercepted (those invisible monsters are Rogue-Bot bane), but it can take around three turns to get to where it's going, and when it gets there the result is underwhelming to say the least.  Why take three turns to inflict 8's on monsters that may not even be there when it lands, when I could instead instantly toss a grenade and do 14's?  In my opinion, the rocket has too many negatives offsetting it's usefulness.  I dunno, maybe I'm using it wrong.

Also, this was probably intentional, but Rogue-Bot is very lackluster when he runs out of MP.  Reminds me of the wizard, except without a basic ranged attack and the fact that he starts with about half the MP as the wizard.

Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, which is likely.

I agree with you, roguebot feels like a real crummy wizard.

It's fun to toss a grenade and kill 4 of those pesky rogue-beetles, but when you get below 12 mana, you're screwed.

The morph mode is really helpful for this, but even the fact that it takes a turn to switch in and a turn to switch out and you cant use abilities means it is much less useful in combat situations.

It seems that there is too much chance involved between levels 2 and 4 when you finally unlock the morph if you go for the standard grenade, bomb, morph.

I don't understand strength+ also, strength is only melee dmg, right? If you are doing melee with robo, you've already lost. An armor+ would be much more appreciated to give time to gain back mana.

These are good points! Grenade is definitely overpowered compared to the other explosives, so I expect the rocket may need its energy cost tweaked down a bit (or a lot).

I've heard some valid complaints that the Robo-Bomb detonates to easily, although I had it in mind that he would serve as a scout; send him into a room and he'll find something beyond your field of view and explode it. It tends to work fairly well to that end in my experience.

STR+… hmm. Melee Combat for him should be unavoidable for him at times, since he doesn't really have an ability like teleport to allow him to stay at range all the time. Armor+ isn't a bad idea, though.

Some of this ought to get addressed in 3.0, I expect.

I like the fact that the Robo-Bomb was intended to be a "scout", that was mainly how I tried to use it.  However, it's usefulness is limited when there's a closed door (opening the door will likely mean any monsters inside will have the chance to get close enough to make Robo-Bomb useless) and using it in dungeon at all feels like you may be committing suicide if you don't use a ranged attack then cancel to know if there are any invisible monsters 'round.

The RogueBot is one of my more regular played characters. He's decent but I can see a few adjustments that would help.

As a suggestion I would like the Tourists iron stomach ability transferred or replicated with the Bot. It just makes more logical sense that a robot shouldn't need to worry about food.

I'd love it if the RogueBot had some sort of electrical feedback power. A real hard hitter. Basically make it a one-shot weapon. Have it so an electrical zap hits all squares next to him and does damage based on your current energy level. Regardless of how it is it would drain you to zero. So it's useful for desperate moments.

I'd just like to see existing monster abilities tweaked and improved.

I also hated the robo bomb until I started using it the way described above… and with improved logic the walking bomb is far more useful, especially in hell. However:

I know that this has been established but rockets are pretty much worthless. I do hope to see them tweaked later.

I also feel like the second level of net is hardly worth the skill point considering it only costs 4 energy to launch and you can recover energy VERY rapidly as a robot. I'd much rather see a second level of grenade, improved logic, or even rocket.

I'd love to get into other classes, but I think that deserves its own thread

I just dont like the rougebot, there are a billion things wrong with it from energy regeneration to the foolhardy walking bomb. IT NEEDS A LOT OF MAJOR TWEAKING
