Ok you guys know what im talking about, that odd swirl that appears most everwhere in the game, loccations I can think of off the top of my head are; on the locker, on the warhammer, on the pedasels in hell and on satans loincloth, oh yeah and on the money bag. So im wondering if its another reference or just a random symbol?

The @ symbol! A subtle nod to fans of the Roguelike genre. '@' has been traditionally used in the founders of the genre to represent the player character (as most early incarnations of roguelikes were ASCII; a monster might be a 'D', and the stairs just a '>').
