So! 2.9 has shipped to Apple. Here's the patch notes!
New Features!
Runes: Tactically advantageous tiles appear throughout the game, granting boosts of strength, health, energy, accuracy, etc., to any player (or Monster!) that occupies them.
2 more monster class IAPs:
Mystic! Spellcaster with fiery abilities, control powers, and the ability to locate and activate Runes hidden runes in the area. And, of course, Teleswap.
Necromeister! Able to raise corpses back to life to fight for him, in addition to a bevy of nether-blasting spells. Can also offer items to his Dark Master in exchange for stronger minions.
Balance changes
Familiars now follow you to new levels
Crystal Ball will teleport after taking significant damage
Familiar following behavior improved
Food is slightly more common in Endless Mode
Monster Max Health increases proportionally in subsequent rounds of Endless Mode
Occasional crash when dying as a Monster class fixed.
Rogue-Bot's Backup Copy ability now works as intended; Backup Copies continue to be made until Max HP falls beneath 5.
Monster movement no longer occasionally overrides player movement
Turns no longer pass when closing the menu, except when equipment has changed
Significant stability improvements over extended play periods

I love summoning classes in games, so can't wait for the Necromeister. Curious to see how well a summon focused character will play as opposed to the current summon-support characters.

Im not sure but i think that the necromeister will sacrifice fractions of health to use spells.

Yep, that's correct. Each skill has a different health cost, but there's one or two that deal little damage but cost little health, and one or two that have huge effects that take a lot of health.

I am going to love this monster class. How long until the update hits the apple store?

I believe Apple generally takes about a week to get things out.
Also, only the summoning for the Necromeister will take from health, right? Seems kind of silly for EVERYTHING he does to be taken from HP when there's a perfectly good mana bar just beneath it.
Also also, can you elaborate on the "offering items to improve minions" bit?

I am so amped for the necromeister. This sounds amazing. Its been a long time since i first brought up the idea in may 9th, no one really posted on it, but its finally here :D. I had to make a new email account to defeat the monster of word press. I would rather kill satan on rogue mode than try to retreive a lost password, seriously. But you guys are awesome, you deserve a candybar. I have no idea where you live so i cant mail it to you. So how about you make the necromeister a dollar and then go buy a candybar of your choice, deal?

A couple interesting things about the Necromeister. For one thing, his summons stay until they're killed, so it's very different than Crystal Ball, and you can build up large numbers of them. Secondly, he has one ability that makes it impossible for him to ever truly die – it means that death just reduces his stats and stuff. You'll love him, tell your friends! :D

Very interested to see what an army of summons can do. Apple cranks out new iPods and iPads faster than they can get out app updates.

Runes, excellent addition. Reminds me of Nippon Ichi's games – Disgaea series, Zettai Hero Project (btw, an awesome roguelike for PSP with a twist)…

Necromeister is quite difficult to get off the ground (out of about 10 plays as him so far, one has managed to level up) but once you get those skeletons he's a ton of fun. At that point, his largest enemy is hunger as there's a lot of moving/waiting involved in getting skeletons to where they need to be. Really, the only bad thing about Necromeister (that I've seen so far) is the fact that a character with no primary attack, and no attacks that don't hurt himself in the process, is difficult to get started on.
